Rojin Kabaiş investigation: New attempt to unlock encrypted phone
Investigators in the case of Rojin Kabaiş, a Van Yüzüncü Yıl University student who went missing in September 2024 and was found dead in October 2024, are attempting a new method to unlock her mobile phone.
The device contains critical digital evidence, including messages and account activity, but its encryption has prevented access. Previous attempts to unlock the phone in Spain and China were unsuccessful. A technical report from China warned that forceful intervention could lead to the permanent deletion of all data.
Family lawyer Abdurrahman Karabulut stated that cyber security experts have proposed a method to access the data without deleting it. To ensure safety, the technique will first be tested on a different device of the same brand and model. If the test is successful, the method will be applied to Kabaiş’s phone, with work expected to begin next week.
