Roku TV promotes software updates to extend television lifespan in Colombia

In response to the generation of over 23 tons of monthly electrical and electronic waste (WEEE) in Bogotá, Roku TV is promoting a model aimed at reducing premature television replacement in Colombia.

Data from the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development indicates that the primary cause for replacing televisions is often not physical panel failure, but rather software obsolescence, such as slow interfaces or loss of compatibility with streaming applications. To combat this, the Roku OS platform provides periodic remote software updates for televisions manufactured by partner brands including Kalley, Challenger, Hyundai, and Finlandek.

Industry specialists suggest that prioritizing platforms with continuous software support can help mitigate the environmental impact of electronic waste and optimize household investments by prolonging the operational utility of existing screens.
