Roland Duchâtelet criticizes UEFA over stadium renovation costs

Stadium owner Roland Duchâtelet has criticized UEFA following a series of mandatory renovations at the Stayen stadium to meet European football standards. Duchâtelet reported that the total investment for these upgrades exceeded 600,000 euros.

A significant point of contention was the replacement of all seats in the North Stand, which cost 70,000 euros. Duchâtelet stated that the original seats were replaced not due to wear, but because their backrests were deemed two centimeters too low according to UEFA regulations. He described the requirement as excessive, noting that the affected stand is primarily used by fervent supporters who remain standing during matches.

Other required modifications included the installation of new access control gates, adjustments to press and official areas, and the relocation of a barrier behind the goal. While Duchâtelet acknowledged the necessity of some upgrades, he expressed frustration with the strictness of the regulations regarding minor technicalities.
