Roland launches Melody Flip AI music composition tool

Roland has released Melody Flip, a free AI-assisted composition tool developed in collaboration with Sony Computer Science Laboratories. Designed as a creative partner rather than a complete song generator, the software provides musical ideas for producers to build upon within their digital audio workstations (DAWs).

The tool features approximately 250 “Palettes,” which are themed collections of musical ideas categorized by genre, ranging from 80s disco to Kawaii Future Bass. Users can generate combinations of melody, chord progressions, basslines, and drums. Additionally, the software can analyze imported reference tracks to suggest accompaniment patterns that match the structure, tempo, key, and mood of the original audio.

Melody Flip is intended to provide raw material for further manipulation. Outputs can be exported as audio or MIDI files, allowing producers to integrate the generated parts directly into their existing workflows. The software is available for macOS and Windows and is included with all Roland Cloud membership tiers, including the free version.
