Roland unveils FP-40 digital piano and Piano Sphere app

Roland Corporation has announced the FP-40 digital piano, a portable instrument scheduled for release in September 2026. The new model replaces the FP-30X and introduces Piano Reality technology, which combines piano sampling with modeling elements to simulate realistic resonance and touch dynamics.

The FP-40 features a PHA-4 keyboard with escapement, ivory-feel texture, and a triple-sensor system designed for rapid note repetition. It is also Roland’s first piano to include built-in Wi-Fi, supporting the company’s ‘Direct Connect’ growth strategy to link instruments with online content and AI.

Accompanying the hardware is the Piano Sphere app, developed in collaboration with Skoove. The app provides real-time feedback, learning courses, and a song library. The system is designed as a unified ecosystem where both the piano and the app receive wireless software updates to ensure continuous feature improvements.
