Rolandas Skaisgirys elected president of Lithuanian Basketball Association

Rolandas Skaisgirys has been elected as the new president of the Lithuanian Basketball Association (ALK). In a decisive vote held in Kaunas, Skaisgirys received 114 votes, defeating his sole remaining opponent, Darius Gudelis, who received 38 votes.

Skaisgirys, the founder of the 3x3 basketball association and former ALK vice president, will serve his term until the autumn of 2028. His platform includes restoring basketball to its position as Lithuania’s leading sport and increasing focus on youth development. He expressed intentions to keep Dominykas Domarkas as general secretary and welcome Jonas Mačiulis to the team.

The election process included a secret ballot requested by a portion of the members. Following the results, the Lithuanian Basketball League (LKL) announced it would remain neutral, stating support for both candidates to ensure future cooperation for the benefit of Lithuanian basketball. Darius Gudelis, a member of the FIBA Europe board, noted that the election process felt political due to behind-the-scenes maneuvers.
