Roma and Egyptian community support initiatives focus on child protection and literacy

Efforts to support the social inclusion and education of Roma and Egyptian communities are underway through various regional initiatives. In Montenegro, the Association for Support of Roma and Egyptians from Berane conducted an educational workshop under the ‘Step to Inclusion’ project. Led by social worker Imelda Ličina, the workshop focused on protecting children from domestic violence, child and forced marriage, and street begging. The initiative, supported by the Ministry of Human and Minority Rights, aims to empower children to recognize risks to their safety and dignity.

In a separate educational push, the Institute for Schooling organized a consultation for representatives from 25 primary schools to improve literacy among Roma and Egyptian students. Supported by UNICEF, the program introduced new educational tools, including a picture dictionary titled ‘Learning the Romani Language TOGETHER’ and a manual for intensive literacy instruction. These materials are intended to help students master basic reading and writing skills to create a more inclusive learning environment.
