Roma Confederation meets with YÖK to discuss higher education access

A delegation from the Roma Confederation met with the President of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar, to discuss improving educational opportunities for Roma youth in Turkey.

The discussions focused on moving beyond mere university enrollment statistics to ensure long-term academic sustainability. Key objectives include increasing graduation rates, providing guidance to potential students, and ensuring that Roma graduates can successfully integrate into the qualified workforce and academic life.

Volkan Ersoy, President of the Roma Confederation Youth Branch, emphasized that the goal is to establish a system where Roma youth can not only reach university but also persist through their studies and maintain a permanent presence in academia. The delegation plans to deepen their efforts through field data, academic studies, and the development of concrete, measurable policy proposals.
