Roma targets Sporting defender Iván Fresneda for €15 million move
Italian Serie A club Roma is exploring the acquisition of Sporting CP right‑back Iván Fresneda, with the Italian daily Corriere dello Sport reporting a tentative fee of about €15 million. Fresneda, a 21‑year‑old Spanish international, is under contract with Sporting until June 2028 and carries a release clause of €80 million, but the Portuguese side appears willing to negotiate.
Roma’s interest follows the unexpected departure of Zeki Çelik to Juventus, prompting manager Gian Piero Gasperini to seek a replacement on the right flank before the new season begins. Fresneda has featured in 39 matches for Sporting this season across the domestic league, Champions League, and cup competitions, contributing one goal and two assists.
Sporting’s president Frederico Varandas has indicated that the club is not closing the door on a potential transfer, keeping the option open for the €15 million offer despite the player’s long‑term contract.
