Romain Gavras premieres ‘Sacrifice’ in Athens with Vincent Cassel
Director Romain Gavras held the Athens premiere of his new film, ‘Sacrifice’, at the Onassis Foundation. The event featured high-profile attendees, including star Vincent Cassel and Gavras’ partner, model Emily Ratajkowski.
The film, which features an international cast including Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Evans, and Salma Hayek, was largely shot in Greece. Key locations included the Volakas marble quarries in Drama and various sites in Thessaloniki and Santorini. The plot follows a radical group that takes high-profile figures hostage at a luxury gala to prevent climate catastrophe.
Gavras expressed deep appreciation for the Greek crew and landscape, noting that the country’s atmosphere was essential to the film’s mythological tone. The production involved unique logistical challenges, such as transporting equipment to a semi-active volcano via donkeys. The film is scheduled for a wide release in Greek cinemas on October 15.
