Roman Anthony shines in rehab debut with Portland Sea Dogs

Boston Red Sox outfielder Roman Anthony successfully began a minor league rehab assignment with the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs on Tuesday. After being sidelined since May 4 due to a partially torn tendon in his right ring finger, Anthony went 2-for-2 with two walks, a single, and a two-run home run. His home run was recorded with an exit velocity of 108 mph.

During the game, Anthony expressed satisfaction with his progress, stating, “I’m good, I’m good to go.” Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy noted that Anthony’s schedule would include hybrid days to monitor his recovery as he works toward a return to the major leagues.

Anthony also addressed the recent trade of his longtime friend and former roommate, Marcelo Mayer, to the San Francisco Giants. Reflecting on the trade, Anthony noted that while it was “sad,” he is excited for Mayer to receive a “new opportunity, almost like a refresh.”
