Roman Storm retrial postponed to April 2027

A U.S. federal judge has postponed the retrial of Tornado Cash co-founder Roman Storm to April 26, 2027. U.S. District Judge Katherine Polk Failla granted the defense's request to delay the proceedings, which were originally scheduled for October 2026.

The postponement follows a pending Rule 29 motion for judgment of acquittal filed by Storm’s defense in September 2025. The motion challenges his existing conviction for conspiracy to operate an unlicensed money transmitting business, arguing that prosecutors provided insufficient evidence. As of the latest court order, the judge has not yet ruled on this motion.

Storm faces a retrial on two unresolved charges from his previous trial: conspiracy to commit money laundering and conspiracy to violate U.S. sanctions. Both counts carry potential maximum prison sentences of 20 years. The defense cited scheduling conflicts as a reason for the delay, a request the judge adopted despite opposition from prosecutors.
