European Parliament political groups elect new leadership

The European Parliament's major political groups have concluded elections for their leadership positions for the second half of the current mandate.

Manfred Weber has been re-elected as President of the European People's Party (EPP) for a fifth term. The EPP, the largest group in the parliament, also confirmed several vice-presidents, including Romana Tomc and Željana Zovko, who was elected to her third consecutive term as vice-president of the EPP Club.

In the Renew group, Valerie Hayer was re-elected as President, and Billy Kelleher was re-elected as First Vice-President. However, Slovenian MEP Irena Joveva lost her position as a vice-president, which she attributed to the group shifting in a more conservative direction and potential disagreement over her stance on EU relations with Israel.
