Romanian travel warning as Italy issues orange fire alert for Sardinia and yellow for Sicily

Romanian authorities warned citizens about heightened risk of vegetation fires in Italy. An orange‑level fire danger code was issued for Sardinia and a yellow code for Sicily, prompting the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to advise Romanians to avoid travelling to the affected areas, follow local instructions and keep emergency numbers (112, 1515) handy. Consular assistance is available through the Romanian consulates in Rome and Catania.

The fire danger also caused the temporary closure of Costa Smeralda airport in Olbia, with flights rerouted to Cagliari and Alghero, and led to road blockages. Italian civil‑protection services deployed helicopters and aircraft to combat the blazes. The warning was also relayed to Moldovan citizens travelling to Italy.

Travelers are urged to monitor official sources, use the “Călătorește informat” app for updates, and only book accommodation through trusted platforms.
