Romania allocates 500,000 lei to promote Mungiu film Fjord for Oscars
The Romanian Ministry of Culture has announced a financial support package of 500,000 lei to promote the film ‘Fjord’, directed by Cristian Mungiu, for the Academy Awards. The film is Romania's official entry in the Best International Feature Film category.
Minister of Culture Ioana Ciocan described the funding as a significant effort to facilitate a campaign aimed at convincing the 12,000 members of the Academy jury. The promotion strategy is expected to include online and offline efforts, billboards, and television appearances, primarily in the United States, to ensure jury members have access to the film.
‘Fjord’, which previously won the Palme d'Or at Cannes, was recently showcased in a special gala screening at the Romanian Athenaeum. The film is scheduled for its national premiere on January 15, 2027.
