Romania allocates 7.8 million lei for school sanitation modernization

The Romanian Government has approved the allocation of 7.849 million lei to modernize sanitary facilities in 97 state pre-university educational units. The funds, provided by the Ministry of Education and Research, are intended for schools in 16 counties, including Argeș, Bacău, Botoșani, Buzău, Caraș-Severin, Călărași, Constanța, Dolj, Gorj, Giurgiu, Ialomița, Iași, Mehedinți, Olt, Vaslui, and Vrancea.

The initiative targets schools where sanitation works initiated in 2025 were not completed by the end of that year. The funding specifically addresses non-compliant facilities, including those located outside school buildings that lack access to running water and sewage systems. The goal is to ensure adequate hygiene and public health conditions for students.

Local authorities are tasked with managing the funds through county school inspectorates and are responsible for covering any necessary funding gaps or costs related to water and sewage connections. To ensure accountability, any funds not utilized by the end of 2026 must be returned to the state budget.

Separately, in Târgu Mureș, a budget rectification project proposes reducing funding for 13 educational units by a cumulative total of nearly 2.98 million lei. The largest reduction is projected for the Gheorghe Șincai Technological High School, with a decrease of 1.056 million lei, primarily affecting current repair funds.
