Romania's healthcare system is facing a significant financial crisis. Interim Health Minister Cseke Attila announced a 98 million lei deficit required for the system's short-term operation. This includes 36 million lei for emergency department salaries, 20 million lei for material expenses at Ministry-run emergency units, 30 million lei for municipal emergency units, and 12 million lei for ambulance services.

To address this, the Ministry is temporarily reallocating funds from other programs, such as HIV/AIDS and transfusion safety, though officials noted these funds must be replenished later. The reallocation is intended to stabilize the situation only until the end of October.

Simultaneously, the National Ambulance Union Federation warned that 17 county ambulance services lack sufficient budget for September, specifically for fuel, medicines, and repairs. While salaries are secured through November, operational costs remain critical. Former Health Minister Alexandru Rogobete criticized the government's approach, arguing that current budget cuts are being mislabeled as reform and are leading to mounting debts and shortages.

In a separate development, President Nicușor Dan is set to visit Bistrița to mark the completion of a 600 million lei hospital modernization and digitalization project, funded through the PNRR and government resources.
