Romania and Bavaria strengthen security and defense industry cooperation

Romania and Bavaria are strengthening their economic cooperation, specifically focusing on the security and defense industries. During a conference in Munich organized by AHK Romania and the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs, officials discussed joint development, production projects, and technological innovation to integrate industrial supply chains.

Discussions highlighted Romania's potential to serve as a production, research, and maintenance hub on NATO's eastern flank, leveraging its expertise in software, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity. This complements the Bavarian ecosystem of industrial companies and technological startups.

Economic ties between the two regions have grown significantly, with trade volume increasing fivefold over the last 20 years to nearly 8 billion euros in 2025. More than 1,000 Bavarian companies currently maintain business relations with Romania. A notable example of this cooperation is the delivery of 56 Vector AI reconnaissance drones by the Bavarian company Quantum Systems to Romania, a deal valued at approximately 46 million euros funded through the European SAFE program.
