Romania adds solar, wind and battery projects to renewable mix

The Romanian public sector is advancing several renewable‑energy installations. The Administrative Palace in Ploiești will receive an 80 kW‑peak on‑grid photovoltaic system expected to generate about 98 MWh annually, covering roughly 16 % of the building’s electricity demand. In the commune of Cristian, a 460 kW‑peak solar park with 910 panels will be built on a previously unused 6,300 m² site, aimed at lowering public‑service electricity costs.

Danish developer Eurowind Energy Romania has obtained authorisation from the National Energy Regulatory Authority and begun construction of three wind farms – Frumușița (66 MW, 11 Vestas turbines), Vector (24 MW, 4 turbines) in Galați County and Pecineaga Nord‑Est (48 MW, 8 turbines) in Constanța County – together providing 138 MW of new capacity. Turbine deliveries are scheduled for the second half of 2026 and commercial operation is planned for 2027. Eurowind targets 1 GW of installed capacity in Romania by 2030.

Energy‑storage developer Aukera signed a €48.5 million contract with the International Finance Corporation to fund the second phase of the Gura Ialomiței battery‑energy‑storage system, adding 100 MW/200 MWh to the existing 150 MW/300 MWh installation. The expanded 250 MW/500 MWh facility will be the largest BESS operating in Romania and one of the biggest in Central and Eastern Europe, with commercial operation anticipated in early 2027.
