Romania and Moldova grapple with stroke and cardiovascular deaths

In Romania, stroke (AVC) is the second leading cause of death after heart disease, with about 150 new cases each day. Neurologist Roxana Vintilă of Hyperclinica MedLife Favorit notes that 60‑70 % of strokes are linked to lifestyle and environmental factors that can be controlled. She emphasizes rapid recognition using the FAST method (Face, Arms, Speech, Time) to improve outcomes.

In the Republic of Moldova, mortality patterns vary by region. The northern region records the highest share of deaths from circulatory diseases, accounting for 59.9 % of total mortality, while Chișinău shows the greatest proportion of cancer deaths at 19.3 %. Digestive diseases are more prevalent in the central and southern regions, and respiratory and external causes are highest in the capital. These regional differences reflect demographic, social and healthcare access factors.
