The Romanian Chamber of Deputies has approved a reduction in the Value Added Tax (VAT) for bee feed, lowering the rate from 21% to 11%. This legislative change aims to support beekeepers by reducing production costs for essential supplies, including protein cakes and sugar-based syrups used during critical maintenance periods.

Proponents of the measure stated that the reduction seeks to eliminate fiscal disparities between bee feed and other types of animal feed. The move is intended to assist Romanian beekeepers facing high production costs and competition from imported honey, specifically from Ukraine.
