Cluj‑Napoca advances 138 million‑lei Someșeni transformer station

Distribuție Energie Electrică România reports that construction of the new Someșeni 110/20/10 kV transformer station near Cluj International Airport has passed the 70 % completion mark. The project, valued at 138.2 million lei (including 86.8 million lei of non‑refundable EU funding), is slated to be operational by 31 December 2026. Once finished, the 56.3 MVA facility will boost distribution capacity for the Cluj‑Napoca metropolitan area, improve power quality, enable connection of new residential and industrial consumers, and support greater integration of renewable energy sources.

The investment also includes underground 110 kV lines, extension of medium‑voltage networks, and full digitalisation of the station’s protection and control systems, aiming to enhance reliability and reduce outage durations.
