Romania and Ukraine probe severe dog and puppy cruelty cases

Romanian police and animal‑protection investigators executed a search warrant at a residential property in Bucharest after reports of illegal breeding. They discovered 32 dogs confined in unventilated cages, many severely starved and covered in waste. A 42‑year‑old operator was detained and placed under judicial supervision while criminal proceedings continue.

In Ukraine, the National Police opened a criminal investigation after volunteers reported six three‑month‑old puppies being torn from their mother, placed in a burlap sack and abandoned in a remote area. Officers located the litter, reunited it with the mother, and are reviewing surveillance footage and witness statements to identify four suspects. Both investigations remain active with no court determinations of liability yet.
