Romania and US sign aviation security memorandum

The Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) and the United States Transportation Security Administration (TSA) signed a memorandum of cooperation in Bucharest on November 2, 2026. The agreement establishes a framework for institutional collaboration and the exchange of relevant information to enhance civil aviation security in both nations.

The memorandum was signed by the interim director of SRI, General Răzvan Ionescu, and the US Ambassador to Romania, Darryl Nirenberg, representing the TSA. The partnership aims to strengthen operational, analytical, and preparatory activities to protect air transport systems and passengers from potential threats.

Separately, MEP Siegfried Mureșan noted that the recent US congressional election results, which saw Democrats gain majorities in both chambers, will directly impact Romanian security. He emphasized that the US Congress plays a critical role in approving defense funding and support for Ukraine, which influences the security landscape in the Black Sea region.
