Romania announces new rules for 2027 National Evaluation and Baccalaureate

The Romanian Ministry of Education and Research has introduced new measures for the 2027 National Evaluation for eighth-grade students. To improve exam results, the plan includes mandatory written simulations and remedial training programs for students with low averages. Specifically, students finishing the school year with a general average below 7 will participate in weekly remedial sessions, while students in grades 5-7 with averages below 6 in Romanian or Mathematics will receive adapted remedial activities.

The plan also emphasizes teacher support through pedagogical counseling and training, alongside increased monitoring of student attendance to prevent absenteeism and school dropout. Additionally, psychological support will be provided to help students manage exam-related emotions.

Regarding the 2027 Baccalaureate exam, the structure remains divided into two components: oral competency assessments (including Romanian, mother tongue, international language, and digital skills) and written exams (Romanian language, a mandatory profile subject, and an elective subject). A significant proposed change to the grading process involves a new digital evaluation rule: if the digital platform detects a discrepancy of more than one point between two evaluators for the same paper, both teachers must undergo a re-analysis of their scores. Major changes from the new education law are not expected to impact the 2027 generation, as they are slated for implementation starting with the 2030 Baccalaureate.
