Romania: Bear bites car bumper on Transfăgărășan highway

A brown bear caused significant disruption and vehicle damage on Romania’s Transfăgărășan highway on August 22. The incident occurred when motorists, ignoring official warnings, stopped their vehicles to photograph a bear family near the road.

During the encounter, a female bear approached a white car and bit off its rear bumper. The event, captured on video, caused traffic to nearly paralyze on the mountain route.

Authorities in Romania have repeatedly warned tourists against feeding wildlife or approaching them, noting that such behavior can lead to dangerous encounters. Experts suggest that as bears become more accustomed to human presence and vehicles, they increasingly associate them with food. Violating safety regulations regarding wildlife can result in heavy fines.
