Romania begins allocation of fixed-term teaching positions

The allocation process for fixed-term teaching positions in pre-university education has commenced in Romania. This phase targets teachers who scored above 5 on the written portion of the Tenure Exam. Eligible candidates include those with averages above 7 from tenure exams over the last six years, as well as those with scores between 5 and 7 from the last three years.

Nationally, there are approximately 6,000 available positions. Data from the Ministry of Education and Research indicates that while 54% of candidates scored at least a 7 on the written exam, the number of teachers eligible for tenure is nearly three times higher than the number of vacancies, leaving roughly 11,000 qualified candidates without permanent positions.

In Dolj County, the School Inspectorate (ISJ) is holding public sessions between August 20 and September 4 to resolve staffing for teachers who did not secure positions in previous sessions. These sessions address teachers with incomplete workloads, those facing activity restrictions, or those seeking second specializations.

Additionally, the Ministry of Education has launched a public consultation for the 2026-2027 school year Tenure Exam calendar. Under the proposal, candidate registration would close by October 9, 2026, with the written exam potentially scheduled for July 6, 2027.
