Romania marks start of 2026-2027 school year

The 2026-2027 school year has officially commenced across Romania, bringing various logistical, educational, and safety developments. In Cluj, over 110,000 students have returned to classes, with the city deploying 14 special bus routes to connect residential neighborhoods to central schools. In Oradea, local authorities have highlighted significant investments in school modernization, though commuters face heavy traffic due to ongoing infrastructure projects.

To support student mobility, CFR Călători is providing free second-class train travel and monthly subscriptions for pre-university students. A grace period allows students to use documents from the previous year until September 30. Additionally, the Sibiu County Council has allocated over 15 million lei to provide dairy, fruit, and bakery products to students through the ‘Program for Romanian Schools’.

Safety remains a primary focus for law enforcement. Police in Maramureș, Brăila, and Dolj have intensified presence and patrols near schools to ensure pedestrian safety and enforce traffic regulations. In Târgoviște, interactive workshops were held to teach children road safety rules. Meanwhile, educational initiatives continue in specialized settings, such as Botoșani, where dedicated teachers lead classes for students within the penitentiary system.
