Romania, Bulgaria, and Turkey conduct Black Sea maritime exercise

Romania, Bulgaria, and Turkey participated in the Tomis 2026 international maritime exercise held in Romanian territorial waters in the Black Sea. Organized by Frontex as part of the Multipurpose Maritime Operation Western Black Sea 2026, the exercise aimed to strengthen operational cooperation, develop interoperability, and test response capacities for complex maritime incidents.

Scenarios tested during the exercise included illegal migration, search and rescue operations, marine pollution, fishery control, and vessel interventions. The event featured participation from the Romanian Border Police, Bulgarian Border Police, and for the first time, a vessel from the Turkish Coast Guard. Specialized units, including the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI), also participated in high-intensity simulations such as hostage rescues at sea.
