Romania business registrations decline in first eight months of 2026

According to data from the National Trade Register Office (ONRC), the number of new registrations for individuals and legal entities in Romania decreased by 2.09% during the first eight months of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025. Total registrations reached 94,078, consisting of 51,873 limited liability companies (SRL) and 38,049 authorized natural persons (PFA).

Bucharest recorded the highest number of registrations with 22,550, representing a 4.32% increase. Other regions with notable activity included Ilfov, Cluj, Timiș, and Constanța. Conversely, the lowest number of registrations occurred in Covasna and Tulcea counties.

By sector, transport and storage saw the highest volume of new registrations at 16,431, a 4.81% increase. Wholesale and retail trade experienced a decline of 16.74%, while professional, scientific, and technical activities grew by 5.73%.
