Romania business trends: rising company dissolutions and service sector shifts
Data from the National Trade Register Office shows that the number of dissolved companies in Romania increased by 17.91% during the first seven months of 2026, reaching 34,029 compared to 31,536 in the same period of 2025. Bucharest recorded the highest number of dissolutions with 7,302 firms, followed by Cluj with 1,992 and Ilfov with 1,787.
In the service sector, the National Institute of Statistics reported a 16% decline in turnover for gambling and recreational activities during the first half of 2026. Other notable declines in market services provided to the population include hairdressing and beauty services (-13.9%) and hotel and restaurant activities (-12%). Conversely, travel agencies and tour operators saw a significant increase in turnover of 17.4% during the same period.
