Romania clarifies student and youth financial support rules
New regulations in Romania clarify the continuation of financial support for students and youth transitioning out of the special protection system after reaching age 18.
Students enrolled in high school or vocational schools may continue to receive state allowances until they complete their studies. To maintain these payments, students must submit an application to their educational institution along with an identity document and a school certificate confirming uninterrupted studies. For students with disabilities, these benefits can be extended up to the age of 26 while pursuing pre-university education.
Additionally, young people leaving the special protection system can access placement allowances and support indemnities. Under new procedures from the National Agency for Payments and Social Inspection (ANPIS), individuals up to age 26 who are studying or employed may qualify for financial rights. This support can be granted for each form of education or for a transition period of up to two years, ensuring continuity for those entering the workforce or continuing their academic paths.
