Romania conducts nationwide 8th‑grade and high‑school exams amid technical glitches

On June 26, more than 148,000 eighth‑grade students across Romania sat for the national proficiency test in 2,956 centres. The written exams began at 9 a.m., with strict rules banning bags, textbooks, electronic devices and other aids. A digital platform used for uploading scanned answer sheets experienced repeated outages, delaying grading for many teachers.

In Szatmár County, 1,871 candidates – 1,687 current seniors and 184 retakers – took the summer high‑school exams between June 29 and July 3. The schedule covered Romanian language and literature, mandatory subjects, electives and the mother‑tongue exam. The same restrictions on materials and electronic devices applied, and results are expected in early July.

Both examinations are overseen by the Romanian Ministry of Education, with results to be published publicly in early July.
