Romania considers new fines for electric vehicle charging station misuse

Proposed amendments to the Romanian Road Code aim to introduce stricter penalties for improper parking. One legislative project, which has passed the Senate and awaits debate in the Chamber of Deputies, seeks to penalize drivers who occupy spaces reserved for electric vehicle charging without actually charging a vehicle. Such violations could result in second-class fines ranging from 865 lei to over 1,081 lei, along with three penalty points.

Separately, drivers face fines of up to 800 lei for parking in front of garages if the vehicle effectively blocks access to an entrance or courtyard. Authorities may also order the removal of vehicles that obstruct access, regardless of how briefly the driver intends to stop.
