Romania's construction sector experienced a significant surge in August 2026, recording a 40.5% increase in the volume of works compared to August 2025, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INS). This growth represents the highest annual increase in the European Union for that month, significantly outpacing the EU average of 2.6% and leading other nations such as Hungary and Finland.

Key drivers of this expansion included a 45.2% rise in new construction works and a 54.9% increase in residential building projects. Engineering constructions also saw a substantial rise of 39.5%. When adjusted for seasonality and working days, the volume of works in August increased by 35.5% year-on-year.

For the first eight months of 2026, the Romanian construction sector maintained a positive trend with a 15.4% increase in gross volume compared to the same period in 2025.
