Romania consumer savings drop as financial pressure rises

According to the MKOR Consumer Sentiment Romania study, only 8.7% of Romanians managed to save money over the past year. The majority of the population is facing significant financial pressure, with 25% reporting that their income only covers basic expenses. Additionally, 25% of respondents rely on existing savings to meet monthly needs, while 23% have turned to debt to cover essential costs.

Economic concerns are reflected in shifting consumer behaviors and perceptions. The intention to purchase a car has dropped from 8% to 4% within a single year. Furthermore, 61.4% of respondents expect to pay more for major purchases in the next 12 months, and 75% believe prices have increased significantly. Confidence in the National Bank of Romania has also declined, falling from 4.1 to 3.8 on a 7-point scale.
