Romania consumer spending expected to rise in August

A survey conducted by Raiffeisen Bank Romania in partnership with Appinio reveals that approximately 70% of Romanians expect higher expenses in August compared to a typical month. For nearly half of the respondents, these costs are anticipated to be at least 26% higher.

Key drivers for increased spending include summer holidays, recreational activities, and home improvement projects. Specifically, 40% of respondents plan to spend more on outings and recreation, 39% on domestic holidays, and 33% on home renovations or improvements.

To manage these costs, many citizens are relying on personal savings (32%) or reducing other current expenditures (29%). Others plan to postpone important purchases (23%) or forgo certain outings (28%). A smaller portion of the population intends to use credit cards, installments (13%), or personal loans (7%) to cover the seasonal financial pressure.
