Romania crime: Burglary conviction and perjury trial

Two separate legal proceedings have been initiated in Romania involving theft and perjury.

In Mintiu Gherlii, a 26-year-old man has been sentenced to one year and six months in prison following a burglary. The individual entered an unoccupied residence by climbing a fence and breaking a window to steal a perfume valued at 500 lei. Investigators identified the suspect through fingerprint evidence found on the broken glass. The perpetrator admitted to the crime, stating he used the stolen item in its entirety.

In Satu Mare, a man with a criminal record is facing trial for perjury. The case stems from a violent assault that occurred in June 2021 near Pomi, which left a victim requiring approximately 60 to 65 days of medical care. While the individual initially provided a detailed eyewitness account of the assault to investigators, he later retracted his statements in court, leading to the current prosecution for false testimony.
