Romania: Driving safety and traffic law updates

Drivers in Romania face various considerations regarding vehicle lighting technology and traffic law compliance. Upgrading to LED technology for non-headlight sources—such as position lights, turn signals, and brake lights—can improve vehicle aesthetics and safety. Notably, LED brake lights react almost instantaneously compared to traditional filament bulbs, which require approximately 0.2 seconds to reach full intensity. At speeds of 100 km/h, this delay can result in a distance of 5–6 meters before the light is fully visible to following drivers.

Regarding traffic behavior, the repeated and insistent use of high beams or light signals to force another driver to change lanes is classified as aggressive driving under the Romanian Road Code. Such actions can result in fines ranging from 660 to 825 lei and a 30-day driver's license suspension. If this aggressive behavior leads to a traffic accident involving material damage, fines may increase to between 990 and 1,320 lei, and the license suspension period can extend to 60 days.
