Romania economic prospects draw attention from foreign nationals

Discussions regarding the economic landscape in Romania have gained traction online following two separate viral stories involving foreign nationals.

A Nepalese worker in Romania became a social media subject after posting a video on TikTok showing a sum of money estimated by commenters to be approximately 7,000 lei. The video sparked debate on Reddit regarding the income potential for foreign laborers in the country. For comparison, the average monthly gross salary in Nepal is approximately 32,000 Nepalese rupees, or about 1,060 lei, making the displayed sum equivalent to more than six times the average monthly salary in his home country.

Separately, a 25-year-old Norwegian service design graduate expressed interest in moving to Romania for eight months with 6,000 euros in savings. The individual sought advice on the local job market and the best cities for relocation due to high living costs in Norway. While some internet users suggested the funds could suffice with careful planning, others cautioned that the individual might be underestimating the cost of living in Romania and noted challenges within the local job market.
