Romania prepares for 2026-2027 school year with local infrastructure and support initiatives

As the 2026-2027 school year approaches in Romania, various municipalities are implementing diverse initiatives. In Bucharest, Mayor Ciprian Ciucu announced a transparent tender for 79 new trams and stated that the city intends to pursue legal action against Solaris to recover damages caused by technical issues with existing vehicles.

Educational support programs are active across several regions. Ploiești is distributing over 3,400 equipped backpacks to primary students, while Covasna is providing school supplies to preparatory class students. In Bistrița, parents can apply online for educational incentives for kindergarteners, and Deva has issued reminders for families receiving inclusion income to provide proof of school enrollment.

Infrastructure and safety measures are also being prioritized. Pitești has completed new access routes and parking near school zones, and Dej has finalized major modernization projects for a kindergarten and a technical high school funded by the PNRR. In Cluj, authorities held emergency meetings to ensure student safety and manage traffic during the school start. Meanwhile, in Dumbrăvița, a significant population increase has led to the opening of a new school building to accommodate a quadrupled student body.
