Romania education system faces rapid AI integration
A recent World Bank report indicates that artificial intelligence is integrating into the Romanian education system more rapidly than state regulations can keep pace with. Students are spontaneously adopting tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity to assist with homework, language learning, and exam preparation.
Educators are also utilizing AI to streamline administrative tasks, including creating lesson plans, worksheets, and tests, as well as tailoring materials for different learning levels. Additionally, school administrators are employing algorithmic tools to monitor student absenteeism and identify risks of dropout.
Romania has invested significant funds into educational digitalization through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). Over one billion euros have been allocated for laptops, interactive boards, IT laboratories, and teacher training. By the end of 2026, more than 5,800 schools are expected to receive digital equipment, with over 80,000 teachers having already participated in training programs that include AI usage.
