Romanian employees report shorter lunch breaks due to workload

A recent study by Edenred reveals that lunch breaks among Romanian employees are increasingly being shortened due to high workloads. The proportion of workers taking less than 30 minutes for lunch has risen from approximately 70% in 2025 to 78% currently. Furthermore, 69% of respondents report skipping lunch either daily or occasionally.

Despite the trend of shorter breaks, the study highlights the significant benefits of regular meals for productivity and wellbeing. Approximately 65% of employees noted that lunch improves their energy levels and concentration, while 44% value the social interaction with colleagues.

Regarding financial impact, 83% of surveyed workers believe their purchasing power would decrease without meal vouchers, as 65% of respondents spend more than 30% of their total household budget on food. The research, which included nearly 3,000 individuals aged 18 to 66, suggests that increasing the value of these vouchers could significantly improve meal quality for employees.
