Romania entertainment market projected to reach 5.22 billion euros by 2026

The entertainment and media industry in Romania is undergoing a significant transformation driven by technological innovation and shifting consumer behaviors. According to a PwC report, the Romanian entertainment and media market is projected to reach approximately 5.22 billion euros in 2026, representing a 2% increase from 2025. The market is expected to continue growing at an average annual rate of 2%, potentially reaching 5.66 billion euros by 2030.

Key growth drivers include music, podcasts, video streaming, and internet advertising, while the print and digital publishing markets are expected to remain relatively stable. The Over-The-Top (OTT) sector, which includes platforms such as Netflix, Disney+, and Amazon Prime, is forecasted to grow from 276 million euros in 2025 to 389 million euros by 2030. As of 2025, the number of OTT subscriptions in Romania has already exceeded 3.3 million.

This shift is characterized by a move away from centralized, scheduled programming toward personalized, on-demand consumption. Improvements in internet bandwidth, such as fiber optics and 5G, have enabled high-resolution 4K and HDR content, while recommendation algorithms have further customized the user experience.
