Romania evacuates five children from Gaza Strip in humanitarian flight

Romania has completed its 12th humanitarian medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) mission from the Gaza Strip. On August 31, 2026, a Romanian Air Force C-130 Hercules aircraft transported 20 people, including five vulnerable pediatric patients requiring urgent specialized medical care and their family members.

The operation was conducted by the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in coordination with the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Ministry of Health. The mission was carried out under the auspices of the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM) and in cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO).

Logistical support was provided by the Romanian Embassy in Tel Aviv at Ramon Airport in Eilat, with the United States Embassy in Jerusalem participating as an observer. A SMURD medical team accompanied the patients during the flight from Otopeni to Israel. Upon arrival in Bucharest, the patients will receive specialized medical treatment in Romanian hospitals.
