Romania exceeds PNRR afforestation and reforestation targets

Romania has exceeded its afforestation and reforestation targets set by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). According to the Ministry of Environment, Waters and Forests, 20,716 hectares have been planted, surpassing the original goal of 18,000 hectares and achieving a completion rate of over 115%.

In addition to the primary reforestation efforts, the program met its target for 13 hectares of urban forests and completed 109 nurseries, exceeding the planned 90. The initiative was supported by approximately 307 million euros allocated for afforestation and urban forests, with an additional 50 million euros dedicated to modernizing the production of forest reproductive material.

Minister of Environment, Waters and Forests Diana Buzoianu stated that these results contribute to soil protection, cleaner air, and increased resilience against drought, heatwaves, and floods. The largest areas of afforestation were recorded in the counties of Dolj, Constanța, Galați, and Botoșani.
