Romania expands gas network with Făgetu distribution station and Mintia power plant trials

Work has begun on a regulation‑measurement station in the Morcolea area of Făgetu, part of the final phase of extending natural‑gas service to the village. The Mioveni city hall contributed 1.6 million lei of the 1.898 million‑lei investment, and the 9‑km distribution network is already in place. The new station will enable verification, authorization and commissioning of the gas system.

The Mintia gas‑fired power plant in Hunedoara has entered its testing phase, allowing it to feed electricity into the National Energy System. Developed by Mass Global Energy Rom and controlled by Jordanian businessman Ahmad Ismail Saleh, the plant aims to reach 1,100 MW of commercial capacity by the end of 2026, with a total planned capacity of about 1,700 MW. During tests, energy is remunerated at the lower of the spot market price and 400 lei/MWh, and transmission limits currently cap the maximum export at 1,448.2 MW until the 220 kV Mintia‑Timișoara line is upgraded.
