Romania expands renewable energy projects and storage capacity

Greenvolt Next Romania announced the development of 11 self‑consumption photovoltaic projects in Dobrogea, totaling about 2.5 MW and an investment of roughly €1.6 million. The projects use 5‑10‑year power‑purchase agreements, after which ownership transfers to the client.

The Romanian Commodity Exchange recorded its first solar‑profile electricity transaction, agreeing to deliver 1,920 MWh in September 2026 at a price of 275 lei per MWh.

PPC Renewables Romania is adding an 80 MWh battery energy‑storage system (40 MW/80 MWh) to the 70 MW Corugea wind park, a project worth 87.4 million lei and supported by €9.9 million of EU co‑financing.

Romania and Serbia signed a memorandum on the Vaskapu III pumped‑storage hydro plant, a project that could become the largest energy‑storage installation in Southeast Europe and help integrate more renewable generation.

RAMANISAL SRL in Bihor County began a 0.1 MW photovoltaic installation financed by a €65 000 modernization fund, projected to cut annual CO₂ emissions by about 63 tonnes and supply 83 % of the farm’s own electricity demand.
