Romania experiences multiple low‑magnitude earthquakes in Timiș and Vrancea regions
On the night of 7 August 2026, Romania recorded two shallow tremors in Timiș County, with magnitudes of 2.2 and 2.8 at depths of 11 km and 8 km respectively. A third quake struck early on 8 August in the Vrancea seismic zone, magnitude 2.8 at a depth of 136.7 km.
Later the same day, a stronger but still moderate earthquake of magnitude 3.2 was felt in the Vrancea area near Buzău County at a depth of 114.7 km. The event was catalogued by the National Institute for Research‑Development in Physics of the Earth (INCDFP) and was reported as weak with no reported injuries or material damage.
Both incidents were described as natural tectonic activity typical for the Vrancea zone, and authorities advised standard safety precautions for residents.
