Romania extends CAEN activity code update deadline by six months

The Romanian government has officially extended the deadline for companies, authorized individuals, and other professionals to update their CAEN activity codes to version Rev. 3 by six months. Government Decision no. 788/2026, which entered into force on October 1, 2026, establishes a new implementation period ending on April 1, 2027.

During this transition period, both CAEN Rev. 2 and CAEN Rev. 3 codes may be used in parallel. Institutions using these codes for purposes other than statistics will accept both versions. The extension follows data from the National Trade Register Office indicating that only 37.24% of targeted professionals had successfully updated their activity objects by the previous deadline. The update process has proven complex for sectors such as commerce, construction, transport, and IT due to the subdivision of certain codes and required permit updates.
